[It was a quiet evening, all of Mushi's roommates off doing their own thing. He'd been happy to settle in bed with a few snacks and a good book, but the knock on the door interrupts him. He isn't expecting anything, but he opens the door, smiling gratefully when he sees Aki on the other side.]

Aki! What a surprise... it's late, isn't it? What are you doing here?

[ Can he tell that she wants nothing more than to just throw herself into his arms? Because she's sure she's being terribly transparent right now. Aki gives him a smile back before motioning inside. ]

Can I come in?

I... of course you can come in. You don't even need to ask...

[Automatically, he reads the emotions on her face, her body language, the tone of her voice, and he knows that whatever she's about to tell him... it's going to be hard for the both of them. Worried, he reaches out for her, one hand gripping her wrist to lead her inside, the other wrapping around her shoulders to pull her close.]

What's the matter?

[ Aki leans into the embrace, nuzzling lightly against his shoulder. It hurts to say what she's going to say, but... at least she'd been allowed to say goodbye to her most important one. ]

I paid off my debt. [ Aki lifts her head to look him in the eyes. She's sure she doesn't have to explain what that means. ]

You paid off...

[It hits him hard. He can look back in his memories, and instead of just replacing her name with the work one, he can remember it now. He can remember every syllable. He squeezes her tightly, whispering her name to her as he stares deep into her eyes.]

Minako...

Yeah.

[ It hurts her, too. He'd just gotten her back, all those months ago, and now she's leaving. Ugh. The witch really does have horrible timing... but Minako squeezes him just as tightly, leaning up just slightly to bump her forehead against his. ]

I wish I could stay, cuz we didn't get enough time together, huh?

Not nearly enough... I mean, it... i-it was more than I deserved, but I...

[He's laughing, and he's not even sure why. It's a hurt, bitter sound, but a relieved one as well.]

I knew I was going to be separated from you eventually. I guess I shouldn't be surprised it felt like it was too soon.
